Subject: Business Insurance Europe statement

Dear Sir/Madam, Following publication of its March 9 issue, Business Insurance Europe
has merged into Business Insurance and will no longer be published as
a standalone newspaper. Business Insurance, launched more than 40 years ago, was the first
publication dedicated to reporting on the news and information needs
of risk and insurance managers, and is the undisputed leader in this
field in the United States and beyond. BI has long had an international
outlook, reporting for decades on the London market, the European risk
management community, Australasia and Latin America. BI launched Business Insurance Europe in September 2006 as a new
publication to serve the leading risk and insurance professionals in
Europe. From the start, the publication was a great success with its
readers in print and online. However, facing diminished revenues caused by the current global
economic downturn, the board of Crain Communications Inc. this month
made the difficult decision to cease publication of Business
Insurance Europe and merge it into Business Insurance. This does not mean that Europe's risk and insurance management
community will be left without the news and analysis that they
have come to depend on from BIE. Keith E. Crain, chairman of Crain Communications, stressed this
when he announced the move. "The worldwide economic crisis is
causing everyone to make difficult, dramatic decisions. In tough
times it is important to stay focused. We will continue to cover
the European market aggressively through the resources of Business
Insurance," he said. Those international resources were expanded as several members
of the former BIE team joined the staff of Business Insurance:
Adrian Ladbury has been appointed International Editor, based in
London; Sarah Veysey is London Bureau Chief; Michael Bradford is a
Senior Editor, based in Switzerland; and Hugo Foster is International
Sales Manager, based in London. Together with their Business Insurance colleagues, the international
team's contributions will assure that BI is the leading source of
news and information for risk managers of multinational companies
worldwide, reporting on significant market moves, industry trends,
legislative and regulatory developments, and catastrophic and emerging
risks wherever they occur. Starting immediately, European subscribers of BIE will receive
the weekly digital edition of Business Insurance. Subscribers and
users of www.BIEurope.com have full access to all news and information
on www.BusinessInsurance.com; including archives of all BIEurope print
and online articles and special features, such as Risk Horizons
roundtables. Subscribers of the daily BIE news alert will automatically
receive the same news in the BI Daily News Alert, and soon will
receive the option to sign up for a new European News Alert. Beyond their contributions to Business Insurance news and analysis,
the European staff of Business Insurance will also ensure that key
BIE projects and services continue. These include the unique BIE100
reports on Europe's top risk managers, the European Risk Manager of
the Year Award, and the BIE Executive Forum series of events on
current topics. With the 2009 FERMA meeting scheduled in October,
Business Insurance will continue BIE's excellent tradition of daily
conference newspapers and online news from Prague, as well as explore
other show dailies at events. BI's European team will build on the close ties established with
the national risk management associations that comprise FERMA, as well
as the major risk management and commercial insurance service
providers in Europe, to ensure that Business Insurance serves their
needs and interests, and covers their news and information. Business Insurance sincerely thanks all our friends, supporters
and partners in the European market who have demonstrated such an
immediate and warm level of support for the team in this period of
change and very much look forward to continuing to work with you in
the future. If you have any queries or input, please do not hesitate to contact
us. Contact details are below and we look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Martin J. Ross
